Ryder The Eagle has been navigating and exploring both the brightest and darkest sides of love for over half a decade, using music as a therapy, travels as a cure and live performances as a catharsis. His first E.P « The Ride Of love » (2017) was written in Paris and was an ode to his wife and the concept of true love. He then experienced the devastating power of deception and disillusion, moved to London and put out his second E.P « Free Porn » (2019). He eventually went through a divorce after his ten year relationship, moved to Mexico City and released his first album « Follymoon » (2022), a sonically lush and demented logbook in which every aspect of the romantic mourning process was addressed, from the depth of loneliness to the frantic (failed) attempts at loving again. The thirty three year old divorcé took his heart-broken mariachi character on the road and played over a hundred shows in less than six months, dragging his cabaret-like karaoke all over Mexico, the USA, Canada and Europe. After clandestinely busking on the streets of Austin, Texas in 2020 while on a cross-country American Greyhound epic, he was finally invited to play at SXSW 2022 as an official artist. He supported Adam Green on numerous US and Europe tours, opened for Franz Ferdinand throughout Europe and headlined sold out shows in Paris.
Exhausted but enamoured at last, Ryder fled to Greece with his new girlfriend and set up his 4-track cassette recorder and Yamaha 80’s church organ in an old house on the island of Evia. He wrote, recorded and self-produced « Megachurch », a melancholic and solemn auto-sermon in which he comes to terms with his past and stares at his future, deconstructing his old faith while drawing the outline of a new one. The hopeful nine songs were written and recorded in less than two months, the analog tape format forcing Ryder to commit fully at every step of the recording process, leaving no space for perfectionism, doubts or second guesses. Ryder gave birth to his rawest yet purest album to date, finding redemption in synthy soundscapes, lyric melodies and poetic songwriting. His girlfriend, the french photographer and painter Eloïse Labarbe-Lafon photographed and hand painted the artwork of « Megachurch », matching the album’s organic feel. The record was mixed in L.A by Noah Georgeson (The Strokes, Devendra Banhart, Adam Green, Rodrigo Amarante, Little Joy) and mastered in L.A by Brian Lucey (Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, The Last Shadow Puppets, David Lynch). It will be released on March 10th and Ryder will be embarking on a world tour for the rest of 2023.

Ce divorcé de trente-trois ans a pris la route avec son personnage de mariachi au cœur brisé et a donné plus de cent concerts en moins de six mois, traînant son karaoké de cabaret à travers le Mexique, les États-Unis, le Canada et l’Europe. Après avoir joué clandestinement dans les rues d’Austin, au Texas, en 2020, lors d’un voyage épique en American Greyhound, il a finalement été invité à jouer au SXSW 2022 en tant qu’artiste officiel. Il assure la première partie d’Adam Green lors de nombreuses tournées américaines et européennes, fait la première partie de Franz Ferdinand dans toute l’Europe et joue en tête d’affiche à Paris à guichets fermés.
Épuisé mais enfin épris, Ryder s’enfuit en Grèce avec sa nouvelle petite amie et installe son enregistreur de cassettes 4 pistes et son orgue d’église Yamaha des années 80 dans une vieille maison sur l’île d’Evia. Il écrit, enregistre et autoproduit » Megachurch « , un auto-sermon mélancolique et solennel dans lequel il fait le point sur son passé et regarde son avenir, déconstruisant son ancienne foi tout en dessinant les contours d’une nouvelle. Les neuf chansons porteuses d’espoir ont été écrites et enregistrées en moins de deux mois, le format de bande analogique obligeant Ryder à s’engager pleinement à chaque étape du processus d’enregistrement, ne laissant aucune place au perfectionnisme, aux doutes ou aux secondes estimations. Ryder a donné naissance à son album le plus brut et le plus pur à ce jour, trouvant la rédemption dans des paysages sonores synthétiques, des mélodies lyriques et une écriture poétique. Sa compagne, la photographe et peintre française Eloïse Labarbe-Lafon, a photographié et peint à la main la pochette de » Megachurch « , en harmonie avec l’aspect organique de l’album. Le disque a été mixé à L.A. par Noah Georgeson (The Strokes, Devendra Banhart, Adam Green, Rodrigo Amarante, Little Joy) et masterisé à L.A. par Brian Lucey (Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, The Last Shadow Puppets, David Lynch). Il sortira le 10 mars et Ryder se lancera dans une tournée mondiale pour le reste de l’année 2023.
